Devotion and the Grace of God.

Chapter-17

On the fifth day of the second fortnight of the month of Margshirsh 1876, Shriji Maharaj was seated in the Durbar of Shree Dada Khacher, in the hall facing west, and was attentively listening to the spiritual readings. He had wrapped his upper body with a white cotton showl and a white cotton cloth was wrapped about his shoulder. He had put on a white turban. He was garlanded by the yellow flower garlands. Nosegays of yellow flowers were suspended from his turban. He was in a very pleasant mood.

He called for Muktanand Swami and Gopalanand Swami and then, said, 'Still there is some laxity prevailing in our followers, and it is required to be eradicated. I desire that this should grow and spread far and wide-touching all our Satsangis, Sadhus and Hermits to absorb them in this divine Satsang. I particularly observe that those who are authorised to give sermons indulge in loose talk. They preach that the holy orders of God can not be observed by all thoroughly. And the religious tenets also are difficult to be observed by all fully. Therefore one should try to observe the holy orders and the religious tenets only to the extent they can be observed in the daily routine of life. The God is the all redumptive personality and redeems even the confirmed sinners. He will, therefore surely redeem us all. Again they say that the divine person of God can not be fully meditated upon merely by our endeavour. Only the benign grace of God mercifully bestowed upon one helps one in such meditation. Such loose talk leads an aspirant to relax the code of spiritual behaviour. Consequently Dharm, Gyan, Vairagya and Bhakti which, if fully developed, bestow the grace of God on one but recede from the lives of such devotees who hear such loose talks. Therefore, I desire that from this day, nobody should indulge in loose talk and one who dose so, should be regarded as spiritually impotent. One who talks thus even unconsciously should observe a fast on that day.'
